Competition history

After regaining independence, the first international military challenge in Estonia was the first Erna Raid, held in the summer of 1993 by the Erna Society. Being notoriously difficult, this challenge quickly became one of the best known of its kind. Over the years, teams from most of the NATO, Nordic, and other states have participated, from as far as China. The Admiral Pitka Recon Challenge, held by the Estonian Defence League, has taken over the format and the legacy of the Erna Raid since 2013. Since 1999, the ERNA Society along with the Estonian Defence League has been holding a winter recon challenge called Utria Assault in Ida-Viru County. It is one of the toughest winter military challenges in Europe.
