Today (Aug 1st, 2017), at Rüütli Square in Pärnu, Major General Meelis Kiili, Commander of the Estonian Defence League (EDL), and Romek Kosenkranius, Mayor of Pärnu and Defence League member, opened the fifth Admiral Pitka Recon Challenge in which are participating 28 teams from eleven countries.
Maj. Gen. Meelis Kiili, Commander of the EDL, said he was expecting a fair honest competition and that all competitors would grow into one united team. “And, in fact, I also expect that this same Admiral Pitka legacy will be passed on to society through such competitions,” added Maj. Gen. Kiili.
As of 14.00 hours today, teams from Estonia, Poland, Lithuania, Denmark, the USA, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Sweden, Finland, Latvia, Great Britain and Hungary will start along the competition route from Jõulumäe Stadium in Pärnu County.
All those interested can share the experience and support the competitors on Thursday, 3 August from 15:00 to 17:00 at the open checkpoint at Lauri Quarry, Saarde Parish and on Friday morning at the final run starting at 09:00 at the Surju School Stadium.
The Admiral Pitka Recon Challenge is an international military sports competition that takes place every year in a different region of Estonia in order to reduce the home field advantage of Estonian teams. The purpose of the competition is to measure the participants’ level of training, weaponry / equipment and definitely also morale under conditions that are as close to reality as possible.
